Your main tasks

The Controls Engineer is responsible for developing sophisticated control and data collection systems for automated assembly equipment, drawing on Mikron’s extensive automation expertise. This role requires a balance of independent work and close collaboration with cross-functional project teams and external customers. The Controls Engineer is involved in all stages of customer projects, including the critical design and debugging phases. This position is vital to the success of Mikron Corporation Denver, ensuring that systems are delivered on time and within budget to meet customer requirements. The role also involves domestic and international travel to customer sites for installation and support as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Program control system software for Allen Bradley and B&R (MOOS) systems.
  • Configure kernel and controlled code settings for application-specific needs.
  • Provide design expertise and guidance during project design reviews.
  • Lead and/or support control system work on projects, delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the electrical and software design of machines.
  • Complete the Software Design Specification (SDS/IO list) with input from Mechanical Engineering.
  • Create and review electrical BOM.
  • Review and redline electrical schematics.
  • Generate accurate and timely Controls Engineering documentation for each customer project.
  • Provide troubleshooting support to mechanical and electrical technicians on the floor.
  • Integrate third-party equipment.
  • Lead verification of installed IO.
  • Support Customer Service post-machine installation.
  • Assist the electrical design team with project designs or changes.
  • Support the Validation team in testing validation packages per customer specifications.
  • Support the Development Team and Customer Service.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Mikron standard materials and practices.
  • Travel to customer sites as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management or supervision within Mikron Corporation Denver.

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree, or internationally recognized equivalent, in a relevant field or 6 years of relevant working experience with clear aptitude in core skills and competencies
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in industrial automation.
  • Proficient in C++, XML, and SQL databases.
  • Advanced Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI programming experience.
  • Experience with electrical hardware used for industrial machinery.
  • Experience with electrical schematics and redline process.
  • Design, setup, and troubleshoot local and remote IO.
  • Demonstrate advanced safety knowledge of industrial machinery and ability to design advanced safety circuits from scratch.
  • Proficient in servo motion and VFD experience (startup, debug, tuning).
  • Expert in integrating third-party equipment (lasers, leak testers, cameras, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of electrical standards (NFPA 79, UL 508A, NEC, UL, etc.).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills (software and electrical).
  • Experience with Data Collection / SCADA systems.
  • Proficient in B&R MOOS C++ PLC.
  • Proficient with the Mikron platform G05 and/or Polyfeed, MAIA, and Tray Handler.
  • Knowledge of the medical/pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.
  • Machine vision knowledge.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be able to travel as requested up to 50% of the year and on short notice. 
  • Must be available to work overtime
  • May be required to work off shift hours and Holidays
  • Must have a valid state Driver license
  • Must be eligible to obtain a passport for international travel.

Pay Range

  • $85,000 -$100,000 per year
